Travel through history on the Natchez Trace Parkway

Natchez Trace ParkwayHead south to Nashville, Tennessee, where there are tons of things to see and do. Then hop on the Natchez Trace Parkway for a unique historical experience. The Natchez Trace was a trail first used by Native Americans, then made into a road in the early 1800s and used by settlers and "Kaintucks" (farmers and boatmen from the Ohio River Valley who floated supplies down the Mississippi River to Natchez or New Orleans, then sold the goods and the boat and returned home on foot via the Natchez Trace). Now a part of the National Park System, the 444-mile long Natchez Trace Parkway (between Nashville, TN and Natchez, MS) has:

  • No traffic lights
  • No stop signs
  • No commercial traffic
  • A comfortable 55 mph speed limit
  • Loads of historic points of interest to visit
  • RV friendly parking at most points of interest
  • Free RV campgrounds on the Parkway (and private full hookup campgrounds nearby)

Explore Kentucky

natural archDon't forget about all the fun stuff to do right here in Kentucky! Surrounded by Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley, Land Between the Lakes is a forested paradise for RVers who also like hiking, canoeing, biking, fishing and more. There are several campgrounds throughout the 170,000-acre area offering RV campsites with many activities nearby.

If you've never been to the Red River Gorge area, you owe it to yourself to check it out. Everybody can appreciate the beautiful gorges, incredible natural sandstone arches, and scenic hiking trails. You'll find opportunities for climbing, hiking, canoeing, whitewater rafting, and much more. There are several campgrounds in the area, including two in Natural Bridge State Resort Park (which is surrounded by Daniel Boone National Forest and adjacent to Red River Gorge area). Any stay at Natural Bridge State Park is not complete without a ride on the sky lift that whisks you up to Natural Bridge and a scenic overlook.

In fact, there are over 31 RV campgrounds in our beautiful Kentucky State Parks system! You probably haven't been to all of them, so take some time to check them out. You'll find them near caves, rivers, waterfalls, lakes, reservoirs, historic sites, and always great hiking. Rent an RV and explore our "bigger" back yard.
